WE LOVE OUR COMMUNITY
Click to learn more about our favorite neighborhood initiatives!
A food rescue that links excess food from grocery stores, produce wholesalers, and farms to local meal programs and social services who serve our neighbors facing food insecurity. Our owner personally donates every month to this local change-maker.
A free neighborhood resource with a “take what you need, give what you can” policy. There are three fridges in Somerville, at Union Square, Winter Hill, and St. Clements Church. The Medford fridge is across from the Medford Senior Center on Riverside Ave. We donate extra ice cream from test batches to the freezer at Union Square.

A little history...
Ravenous Ice Cream started as Jackie Sharp’s covid project. She discovered a simple & indulgent ice cream recipe (which later learned was Philly-style ice cream), and was making 2-3 different flavors every month for her friends & coworkers around town. Very quickly, word of mouth snowballed into a waiting list, 300+ followers on instagram, and a grand total of nearly 800 homemade pints hand-delivered on the weekends from Stoneham to Roxbury. This is how Jackie was dubbed “the Dairy Fairy”!
The ice cream speakeasy was put on hold once her job at America’s Test Kitchen got back into full swing. But a ravenous seed had been planted, and near the end of 2022, Jackie left ATK to give ice cream her full attention. She landed a membership at Commonwealth Kitchen, a food business incubator in Dorchester, and finally saw her ice cream on the shelves for the first time at Formaggio Kitchen on December 1st, 2023!
Our company values...
As of September 2024, Ravenous is still a one-person company, dedicated to using local ingredients & sustainable materials, and becoming a treasured part of the neighborhood in Medford & Somerville. Our cream comes from the happy cows at Hatchland Farm in NH, and we strive to avoid common allergens like eggs, nuts, soy, and gluten. We also hate plastic and love trees! Our spoons, cups, napkins, and even our business cards are all made from upcycled waste materials that are biodegradable or compostable. Jackie’s favorite day of the week is Thursday, when she can meet her neighbors at the Medford Farmer’s Market!
